As we continue with our Under the Radar 2016 series – a look back at those who have, quite frankly, bossed 2016 without much mainstream recognition – we turn our attentions to Roska Kicks and Snares; without doubt one of, if not, THE standout U.K label of the year.

When talking about RKS‘ 2016, we must start with their sound.

The music released by the label is a somewhat hybrid of the UKG family. Releases have covered all sub-genres from bass to funky, house to garage.

The label, spearheaded by boss Roska, has managed to represent a new wave of talent emerging nationwide. With the likes of Murder He Wrote, Distro, Ahadadream & Majora, team RKS has championed names looking to spur a new golden era.

We also saw the return of Boy 8 Bit with Low Blow/Action Break, a truly forward thinking producer who always seems to deliver upon every release.

The main man himself, Roska, was also busy in 2016. The 6 track Askin’ Four It EP was a perfect representation of Roska as a producer, an EP consisting of funky rollers, seductive vocals and tribal bangers. Alongside this, we also saw the return of original U.K Funky dons  Funkystepz & MC Versatile, with fresh new material, illustrating RKS’ large and diverse talent pool.

At the moment, no label comes close to showcasing both the talent and sounds coming from the world of funky, bass , garage and house, across the U.K.

If 2016 is anything to go by, we can expect even more emerging talent and hybrid sounds coming from the label in 2017.
